The Workshop ”œRecommendations for the Improvement of the provision of water and sewer services”

On the 11th of May 2011, the Northern Regional Development Agency in collaboration with the International Cooperation Agency of Germany (GIZ) organized the workshop on the topic "Recommendations for the Improvement of the provision of water and sewage services" in Riscani.

Mr. Ion Bodurg, the North RDA manager, mentioned in his communication that the project is now at an advance stage and it will be implemented. The North RDA will be involved in the identification of the problems that could arise during the implementation of the project. It is very important that inhabitants of the Old Duruitoarea village as well as the LPA are ready to contribute to its implementation.

Mrs. Margareta Vames, the GIZ consultant, has presented the scope of the workshop. The purpose is to identify obstacles that will be met by the enterprises that offer water and sewer services and finding the suitable solution for avoiding them.

The director of the SRL "Water Engineering from Orhei", Pavel Panus, came with a presentation of a diagnostic study of the IM "Water Channel Costesti." It is a study that aims to solve some problems that deal with the technical aspects of the project. He spoke about water waste that happens because it is not known how much water is obtained and how much is offered to the beneficiaries.

In her turn, Ana Timus, the economist of the SRL "Water Engineering from Orhei" spoke about the financial problems of the project.

Ion Parea, the President of the Riscani Regional Council mentioned that in order to solve the problems of water they need at least 2 million lei.

It was the Mayor of Costesti that applied for the implementation of the Project: "The Insurance of the water and sewage service in the village of Old Duruitoarea." The purpose of the project is the access to AAC services for the inhabitants of the village.

Directors of the enterprise that ensures the water and sewage services from Riscani, Representatives from the public health centre, The Nations Ecological Agency and the Regional Council all took part in the workshop. In addition the LPA, the Ministry of Environment, the Moldovan Waters Agency as well as managers from the AAC from the district of Riscani also were present for the workshop.

The village of Old Duruitoarea is part in the region of Costesti in the raion of Riscani, which has a population of about 470 people. Till now the locality has had no water and sewage systems.  The population uses water from the 41 wells present on the territory with 37 of the wells not meeting the health standards. During the summer most of the wells run dry and the population has to use water from the villages near them.
